Sam, I can’t tell you what a great response we’ve had to this in the Pastors Today e-newsletter.

I really like Simple Church, but Essential Church is even better. I am glad you and your Dad wrote this book together, but he told me one time that you were the brains behind the book. I look forward to future books by you.

I started out with the download but I had to go and get the hard copy. This book talks about just about all the issues I struggled with my church/churches as a young adult between 18-22. Even at 32, leading the same age group, I struggle to get our church to take seriously this group. You’re right that many young adults don’t leave their faith, just their churches. It seems that maybe this is why many young adult/college age are seeking ministries outside of the church. I don’t think it’s because they want to but because they almost feel they have to in order to continue with their faith. This book also helped me realize how ‘urgent’ our youth and children ministries need to be with discipleship and not just activities. I believe for the young adult, church is important to them because it is the identity of their faith but sadly many sense that their church doesn’t care enough about them that they seek other identities for their faith.

After seven years of leading the youth ministry at my church, I am now blessed with the task of developing an outreach ministry for young adults. Your book has helped me a lot in this area. Thanks.

I have read Simple Church. It had a great effect on our current approach to ministry. Having recently purchased the hard back version of EC? I figured downloading it was a nice touch. I am really looking forward to gleaning some useful insights to real time local church ministry. Thanks for the hard work of helping those of us in trenches.
