The Lord’s Supper is a picture of intimacy with God. The meal was prepared by God from the beginning of time. Close proximity to Jesus doesn’t save you. The Lord’s Supper is not about how we love God. It’s about how God loves us.

Speaking of the Communion service, your readers might be interested in the book published in 2000 by the denomination, the Church of the Brethren (Elgin, Ill.), called “The Love Feast.” In photos and text the book (in 166 pages) covers the Anabaptist traditions of the communion with chapters on the origins of the Love Feast; Preparation; Feet washing; Agape Meal; and Communion. It also traces the origins of the Brethren from Schwarzenau, Germany. Available in hard cover and softbound.
