Pray for the Students and Faculty at Union University

February 6, 2008

Perhaps like several of you, I spent part of my night hunkered down in the bathtub with my wife and cat. I praise God our home and church were spared any major damage.

Union University, however, took a direct hit. My family is close to many of those affected by the storm in Jackson, TN. We praise God that thus far no deaths have been reported at Union, but they will be digging out for quite some time.

Please keep them in your prayers today and in the future. Pray for strength for President David Dockery as he leads the students and faculty through this terrible disaster. Pray for those that are injured, especially those still in the hospital. And pray for all of those affected by the storms across several states. I also know that at least one family connected to LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville, TN (where my father is president) had family members killed in the storm. Pray for them as well  during this time of grief and confusion.

I heard the news this morning and my heart sunk. We have been trying to get a hold of a guy who used to work here (and is also finshing up his masters at Southern) and now works at Union, but haven’t heard from him…

Thanks Jennifer. Please keep us updated. And we’ll keep praying.

Thanks for the reminder to pray for the folks at Union Sam. David Dockery is a class act, and he is doing a great job of leadership during this very difficult time. LifeWay looks forward to responding with some very specific plans to help when our trustee board meets next Monday.

By the way, I thank God that you and Erin are okay.

A student that is a member of our church goes there – thankfully she is fine, but has lost everything she owned there – but that can be replaced.
